With the passing of someone, we always come to a point in our life where we reflect. We do some recon and look back at our lives, asking the questions: “If I die today, what legacy will I leave behind?” “How will I be remembered by peers, family and friends?” “Have I done enough?”
We resort to making short term changes that are only apparent for a while, and then we drift back into the routine we lived before. I have always wondered what makes the difference between successful and unsuccessful people. It is obvious that with successful people, you can sense that they are cut from a different cloth. Their mindset is different than those who are less successful. Some of you might argue that it is a choice each individual makes. Some might argue that being successful is an inherent trait that just…comes with the territory and that your circumstances force you to make a success. I strongly lean towards the former. Being a success is a choice. It is a choice everyday to keep pushing, even when it seems like the odds are stacked so high against you.
I read a quote the other day, “Give people a high five for getting out of bed today. Being a person can get hard.” And how true is that? When the good life hasn’t been handed to you on a silver platter, you have to hustle timelessly and very hard to get what you want or sometimes, what you need – which is the bare minimum. Just getting by has become a struggle, which we all have to involuntarily take part in at one point in time. Each one of us finds ourselves actively leaving a mark in the Infamous Hall of Struggles. [The struggle is real!]
This post goes to the ones who wake up in the morning. To the ones who hustle on a daily, in whatever way to get by. This post is for the survivors.
Keep on keeping it on. Don’t look back one day and ask if you have done enough. Do what you can do now.
When it matters.
ML,
